There's an old saying "If it were easy everybody would do it"
Lots of people, including myself, have a dream that one day they'll be able to quit their day job and pursue a career as their own boss, making a fortune online.
It's a good dream and it can get people through tough times in life. Visualizing better things in life can eventually make them happen, but not without some hard work and commitment.
The honest truth is, although it's still possible to create the life of your dreams with affiliate marketing, few people succeed, while most are left frustrated, overwhelmed and out of pocket.
Why is this?
Well, a new book called "The Iceberg Effect" by my mentor and partner Dean Holland, uncovers the grim reality of affiliate marketing in today's world.

So who is this guy and what's the book all about?
I first stumbled across Dean Holland in September of 2018 when he was hosting an event called the Quick Start Challenge.
This was a 6-week 'adventure' into understanding how to implement a different kind of strategy in creating an affiliate marketing business, and it turned out to be just the thing I had been searching for.
After completing the 6-week challenge, I was presented with an opportunity to become a Certified Partner in Dean's company Internet Profits, which I'm delighted to say I accepted.
It was then that the mentoring really began.
Up until that point I had been swimming against the tide and drowning if I'm honest. There are just so many sharks out there looking to take a bite out of you and your wallet.
So much information and misinformation, it was mind-boggling and so easy to get disillusioned and to give up.
These are the pitfalls though and as we know if it were easy everyone would do it.
Most people fail to realize that investing in a mentor early on is invaluable, someone that has been around the block and has gone through the same struggles and failures that you're now facing.
Instead of shelling out on every new product or service that comes into this market, looking for the get rich quick miracle that will never happen, you should be spending your money on a mentor.
Enter "The Iceberg Effect"
Dean Holland has been in the internet marketing business for some 14 years now, the last 10 of which he actually started making money.
As he explains in the book, his first 4 years were a real struggle, unable to make money, and in fact, getting himself into serious debt.

In his introduction to the Iceberg Effect, Dean Holland takes us through his own struggles as a young man looking to find his way in life.
He always knew he wanted something better, something where he could provide a decent lifestyle for himself and his family.
He attempted many things, at times seeing little flickers of light, but ultimately he was destined for a life of low paying jobs and mediocrity, so he turned to the internet.
Dean's honesty and transparency are very comforting throughout this chapter. Just knowing that he has gone through these same struggles is a motivation in its self, especially in the times you're feeling that things are not working out and that it's just not going to happen for you.
How he was finally able to turn his life around – Chapter 1
With the wise words of his mentor at that time, he was able to start his first blog.
With his blog in place, he made connections with others in the internet world and from there was able to start generating his first income through affiliate marketing.
In this short chapter, he offers motivation and tells of the importance and power in getting a mentor as early as possible.
Just do it…
In business as in life, it's so very important to have the correct mindset or we will never move forward, after all, people will always find excuses for not getting things done.
In chapter 2 Dean explains how we can all train ourselves to become a winner.
He examines the difference in having a fixed mindset against a growth mindset, the fear of failure and the fear of success, and the importance of having a good attitude and positivity.
It's very true that we must take responsibility for the work that has to be done and to stop making excuses for not getting it done, this chapter shows us how we can do just that.
Why do you 'really' want an internet business?
Have you ever taken the time to analyze 'WHY' you actually want an internet business?
Most people would probably say that it's because it would give them the freedom they have always craved, or perhaps more time or more money.
Creating a great exercise in chapter 3, Dean suggests you ask yourself the questions that will ultimately give you the answers to 'finding your why'.
I'm in paradise…
Dreaming about the lifestyle that could be yours, the lifestyle that we perceive only celebrities or the super-rich can enjoy is a daydream we all have at times.
Get your dream lifestyle clear in your mind, or create a physical picture or montage even, of that lifestyle, no holds barred. A lifestyle where money is no object and in fact, there are no limits whatsoever to what you can have or achieve.
Dean looks at the process of putting that picture together in chapter 4, this is a picture of your wildest dreams, a picture that will motivate you through your toughest challenges.
When you have a physical picture or a picture in your mind of your most fantastic lifestyle everything becomes worth the effort.
KISS – Keep it simple stupid
In the struggles that we go through in the search for success, we generally hit roadblocks along the way, this in turn leads us to question our abilities or even if it's possible for us to succeed.
It's generally down to the perception that there is just too much to do, too much to learn giving us a feeling of total overload.
Dean simplifies things in chapter 5 by teaching us that there really are only 4 core areas that we should be focussing on.
Cutaway all the noise, irritations and shiny objects and concentrate on the 4 things that will move your business forward every day.
This chapter is a game-changer, you'll feel like a weight had been lifted from your shoulders.
Is it becoming more difficult to make money with affiliate marketing?
It has probably become apparent, if you've been struggling to make some extra cash through affiliate marketing, that it is becoming harder.
